Ashtanga Yoga classes in Castlemaine & North Fitzroy.

IMG_0815.JPG

Ashtanga Yoga Melbourne is dedicated to sharing Ashtanga Yoga via the traditional Mysore - style method. Mysore - style classes at AYM allow the time and space for each student to experience the benefits of Ashtanga yoga. Ashtanga yoga is a transformative practice. Karyn supports and guides each student, with care and attention in the process of yoga.

All classes are taught by Karyn Grenfell (Certified KPJAYI and SYC). Karyn is a long time practitioner of Ashtanga yoga and has been teaching the Mysore - style method in Melbourne for over 20 years. Originally a nurse in a busy Melbourne hospital, Karyn discovered yoga to help her deal with daily stress. Her study of yoga led her to Mysore, India where she was taught by Shri K. Pattabhi Jois and his grandson, Sharath. Pattabhi Jois authorised her to teach this method in 2001, then she received her Advanced Certificate from Sharathji in 2012. She is one of a handful of women in the world to receive this Certification.

Karyn’s intention in teaching is to encourage students to practise with dedication and patience. She believes that once a consistent practice is established, benefit comes and the journey unfolds.

Karyn is also a mother, stepmother, baker of sourdough bread and a gardener in her family’s community garden plot. Her yoga practice is the constant in her life, it helps her feel comfortable with what life presents on a daily basis and enables her to feel at ease within the craziness of our constantly changing world.
