Winter Warmer - King's birthday class

  • West End Hall Cnr View St and Woodman St. Castlemaine, 3450 Victoria (map)

Join Karyn for a warming 2 hours of yoga on this winter’s public holiday morning.

We will begin by sitting together in silence, bringing attention to our breath, before moving with awareness into a counted led (half primary series) Ashtanga practice. Karyn will teach this practice in a traditional manner, counting each vinyasa in Sanskrit, inviting students to be present with each breath.

For the final 30 minutes of the class we will have chai and enjoy chanting some shanti mantras and the initial yoga sutras together. Chanting is another aspect of yoga which helps focus the mind and regulate the breath.

This class is highly recommended for anyone who is attending Karyn’s Mysore classes at West End Hall or if you have some experience with Ashtanga yoga.

Cost: $30. To make your booking please deposit your payment into Ashtanga Yoga Melbourne bank account, BSB: 063-509 Account number: 1032 6237

“Why a led class?” You may ask! Led class is very beneficial for Ashtanga pracitioners at any level. It enables students to observe habits they may have picked up in their self practice and establishes an understanding of the vinyasa count which is central to the Ashtanga system. As a result, the student may experience a heightened sense of focus and experience the practice as a moving meditation. Also, led class encourages students to let go of their individual stories and instead join together with connection felt through the breath.

During the led class students are encouraged to practice to the place where they usually practice to in a Mysore class, then rest and rejoin the class for the finishing sequence. There will also be time for students to make modifications as necessary. Please email with any questions.
